Letters From Away As a part of my thesis research, I was interested in ways of designing sustainable messaging that didn't look "sustainable". As a self-proclaimed dumpster diver, I was curious about where trash went when we threw something away and wondered if anyone else thought much this. So, I posed this question to others : Where does your garbage go? I then designed the responses and printed them on "trash" (discarded wallpaper). The Letters From Away book is a collection of these letters, surrounding an essay by Susan Strasser about the social history of american trash. The color palette of red, white, blue and brown adds another layer that trash and consumption is truly an american challenge. The medium is the message in the resulting book where a collection of serendipitous moments of old material and new message collide.
